Downacow Harness

The Downacow Harness was developed by Dr. John Roe at Bristol University in 1985 and today remains the most effective piece of equipment in the treatment of Downercow Syndrome. It is used by all the UK's Veterinary Schools, as well as thousands of Vets and farmers in the UK and on mainland Europe, and for good reason:

  • Easy to fit and deploy.
  • Can be used to safely transport the animal to a place of treatment or recovery.
  • Animal is both secure and comfortable, making it suitable for prolonged use, for the more serious cases.
  • Inexpensive and hence cost effective in the highly competitive dairy industry.
  • Low labour requirements, can be fitted in a few minutes and then left for duration of the recovery, without constant supervision.
  • During the recovery period the specially designed padded udder surround allows the cow to be milked or suckled.
  • The unique single support point means that the animal is free to move and feed. This all important leg movement provides physiotherapy which accelerates the rate of recovery.
  • Can be used on animals that have slipped, "done the splits" or suffered damage to leg joints.
  • Compact and, if kept clean and stored with care, will last for many years and can be used time and time again, saving many animals from probable death.
